The US government fails to realize the message it can send to young people in regard to drug abuse. In today s time, drugs has become something that is accepted because the government remains silent. When we (especially people in authority) constantly speak out against things that are illegal, we re-iterate in young people s minds that it is not acceptable. By speaking out, we send the message that we will not tolerate it.

Sadly, the Clinton administration appears to be espousing Carter’s
apathetic stance on the issue. For the first part of his term he
appointed a surgeon general who voiced support of drug legalization,
and reduced the amount of resources available to the White House drug
